Skills Recognition

Turn your UK care experience into recognised Australian qualifications

If you have already worked in care in the UK, you don't have to start again. Through Equinox College's Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway, your existing skills, workplace experience and informal learning can be assessed and formally recognised against Australian qualifications — saving you time, money and unnecessary study.

Why it matters

Why RPL matters for UK applicants

Save time and money

Skip training you don't need. Have your existing competencies assessed rather than repeating study you've already lived on the job.

Validate the skills you already have

Formal recognition of the knowledge and practical skills you built while supporting real people in real care settings.

Faster career advancement

Move into Australian-recognised roles sooner, with a credential that employers here understand and trust.

Recognised by employers and industry

Equinox College is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 45040). Our qualifications are nationally recognised across Australia.

About RPL

What is Recognition of Prior Learning?

RPL is a formal assessment process that determines credit for competencies you've gained through formal study, informal learning and the work environment. Rather than sit through training you don't need, an assessor reviews evidence of your existing skills and knowledge against the requirements of an Australian qualification. Evidence must be valid, sufficient, current and authentic — but it can come from many sources, including UK workplace experience.

The process

The RPL process, step by step

01

Enquiry

Let us know on enquiry if you hold any relevant qualifications and experience.

02

Enrol and submit evidence

Enrol into the program and submit your initial evidence.

03

Assessment

We will assess the evidence you have provided (we may ask for additional evidence).

04

Report and gap training

We will provide a report outlining what training is required (there will be gap training as you will need to know about the Australian Care Sector).

Evidence

Types of evidence

Direct evidence

Observation of your actual performance — on the job, via video, workplace products, or simulations and role-plays where direct observation isn't possible.

Indirect evidence

Documents you supply, such as work samples, reports, previous certificates and qualifications, and documented work history.

Supplementary evidence

Additional confirmation such as written or oral questioning, third-party testimony from a supervisor, or self-assessment reports.
